AN OPENING THOUGHT
There’s just something about wearing new clothes that feels really great!
IT DOESN’T MATTER
They can be dress clothes, church clothes, summer wear, cruise wear, or whatever wear, or even just new shoes, it doesn’t matter. Anything new feels great.
I REMEMBER
One of the best times of the year was getting new school clothes. Kids grow. They get bigger every year and every year they need new clothes.
When I was in eighth grade, my mom told me to pick out a new winter coat from the Sears catalogue, now that was exciting. That was 1968 and catalogue shopping was the closest thing we had to online shopping.
I guess kids world-wide like getting something new to wear.
EVEN IN HAITI
Children with the least are often the most excited when it comes to getting something new. They’re excited even if it’s secondhand. It doesn’t matter. It’s a gift.
Recently, the Southeast Church of Christ gathered socks, hats, hair ribbons, and other items for the children in the Cite Soleil School in Port-au-Prince. The Southeast church sponsors about 350 children for Christian Education. The gifts were given this week.
A big thank you to our wonderful partners at Hope For Haiti’s Children.
TRANSFORMING LIVES
The transformational power of Jesus is like that. It’s like getting new shoes, a new suit, or a new shirt, dress, or blouse. Jesus can make us feel brand new. Spiritual renewal is Jesus our Messiah bringing us back from spiritual death. As he was raised from the tomb so each of us can raised with him. Renewal is new life.
THINK ABOUT IT
2,000 hats: $10,000
3,000 pair of socks: $12,000
1500 hair ribbons: $2,000
Shipping it to Haiti: $2,500
The smile on their faces: Priceless
Our salvation, forgiveness and new life? It wasn’t free, just freely given!
