IT’S A BIRTHDAY THING
I celebrated my 60th birthday over the week end. Yep, sixty years old.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
Here are some things people are saying about my turning sixty.
- “It’s the new forty”
- “It could be worse”
- “How old were you last year?”
- “I thought you were sixty already”
- “Do you need someone to blow on your soup?”
- “You’re probably over wanting gifts, right?”
- “Can you read the card?”
- “You still look good”
These were all so cleverly crafted. Although some of them were actually serious questions.
When I mentioned to a close friend, who is one of my favorite people in the world, that I was about to turn sixty responded with, “Oh my goodness!”
UhHuh
THE CLICHE’S
- You are only as old as you feel.
- Age is all in your head.
- You’re not getting older, you’re getting better.
Someone once said that you know you are getting older when you wake up in the morning and everything hurts. And if it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t work.
It’s good to have a sense of humor about these things. Perhaps I’ll laugh later.
THE GOOD STUFF
Here are all the really good things about turning sixty.
SOME FINAL THOUGHTS
I’ve been happily married for 38 years. My kids are doing well. I minister to a loving and thriving church. My outlook is strong. My attitude is positive. My health is good. And my mental health is doing fairly well. Which is fine since that’s how it’s been for years.
IN CLOSING
I am surrounded by a loving family.
I have great friends.
My life is blessed in every way.
Turning Sixty? It’s Priceless.
I say bring it on, the best is yet to come.
(Too cliche?)
